The story of how I got Bambi - Fur baby / chihuahua number 1 of 2 :)

My dogs are my world. They are cute, fluffy bundles of love. Even if I've had the most rubbish day I know that when I get home I'll have two little love-muffins wagging their tails with glee at my arrival.

Bambi & Rio - October 2013

As a child I asked my parents for a dog more times than I can recall. Every birthday wish as I blew out the candles on my cake would be for my parents to finally allow me to get a dog of my own. I'd had goldfish and pet rabbits, but despite their cuteness, nothing could replace my dreams of a little dog.

So in 2010, at the age of 20, I started to research Chihuahuas. I must have read hundreds of articles about choosing a canine companion and how to care for one. I was sold. I found a local breeder and jokingly sent my Mum the website link. Never did I ever think she'd take me seriously! My Mum casually suggested that there and then we should just 'have a look' at some of the breeder's puppies. I was shocked.

An hour later and we had arrived at the breeder's house. The second we stepped into her house I laid eyes on the tiniest, most handsome bundle of fur I had ever seen. The breeder placed the baby boy in my hand (he was smaller than my hand!!!) and I was in love. I didn't expect anything would come of this trip, but then ... My Mum was passed the puppy and that was it. She was besotted! My Mum immediately decided that this dog needed to come home with me and I was in heaven hearing these words.

Bambi used to fit in one hand!

I named my baby boy, Bambi. <3

I hadn't told my Dad that we were going to look at puppies, let alone told him that I had bought one! I wasn't going to tell him until I actually collected Bambi, but I felt so much guilt so later that day I confessed. My Dad wasn't happy. He didn't think I was ready for the responsibility of my own dog, but I didn't agree. We agreed to disagree.

Waiting for my puppy to be ready to leave his Mama was the longest week of my life so far. Every minute seemed like eternity. Finally on Mother's Day my Dad and I went to collect Bambi. My Dad still wasn't happy and was silent the whole drive to the breeder's house. When we got there I had to sign paperwork and the breeder went and got Bambi and then placed him in my Dad's arms. I have never seen my Dad's face change faster. From a stony, cold glare to a beaming gaze of love, my Dad too was sold.

Look at this little handsome boy!

The first night of Bambi being away from his Mummy was torture. He cried and cried and I cried and cried. I felt awful for stealing him away and I started to feel like I'd made a huge mistake. But since that first night Bambi has been nothing but perfect. He didn't cry again. He is the most gentle, intelligent and handsome little thing. I love my BamBam with all my heart.
Bambi could sleep for hours in my arms. <3
... and that's a brief summary of how I got my first ever dog!

Be sure to check back soon when I tell y'all how I got my second little baby chihuahua, Rio, and other articles that you may enjoy!

My 1st Ever Blog Post! / About Me

Hello! Vicki here and this is my first blog post EVER!

I am a 23 year old Psychology Graduate from the South Coast of England. I have a German / Italian Mother & my Dad was born and raised in Zambia by his Irish parents - a bit of a mixed nationality! My younger sister is at University reading English Literature and she is probably one of the only people who knows me inside-out.

I met my boyfriend, Andy, at Sixth Form College when I was 16 and he quickly became my best friend. After years of friendship, in May 2012 we decided to become 'exclusive' and have been together (& living together) ever since. Living with Andy and I are my two pedigree Chihuahuas, Bambi and Rio. These pups have been a constant source of happiness and love - I could not imagine my life without them!

After finishing my degree and spending summer deciding what to do next with my life, I thought about starting a blog to document my transition from carefree student into real life grown-up woman! (Scary!)

At the moment I'm not 100% certain about what this blog will contain but expect any of the following:

  • Finding a Job
  • Losing Weight (I gained a lot of weight at Uni & will be documenting my weight-loss journey)
  • Love and Boyfriend talk
  • Pets!! (I LOVE my 2 chihuahuas!)
  • Friendships
  • Travel (I generally travel a fair bit so join me on my adventures around the globe!)
  • Make-Up, Hair and Fashion
  • Home Decor and Crafts
  • ... and many, many more random topics for discussion!

So please excuse me whilst I go away and decide upon what to write about in my first 'proper' blog entry. I hope you enjoy reading my future articles and that I help people with their own lives on the way.

Love & Kisses,

Vicki Angel xoxo
